Kindly note also that you should apply for the visa at least one month in advance.

For us to send you an invitation letter with your names and details for visa purposes, all data should be registered on the IMO website.

THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER ONLINE ALL TRAVEL DETAILS IS JUNE 15. PLEASE HELP US HELP YOU BY REGISTERING BEFORE THE DEADLINE.

HOW TO GET TO MAR DEL PLATA

IMO2012 will be held from 4 July until 16 July. Leaders should arrive July 4. Contestants an Deputy leaders should arrive July 8. The contest itself will take place on 10 and 11 July. Participants of IMO2012 are expected to arrive at one of the following locations:

  • Mar del Plata Airport 
  • Mar del Plata Railway Station 
  • Mar del Plata Bus Station 

Nevertheless, we will provide assistance for your connection at Buenos Aires Airports, if you let us know the flight. Look for the IMO sign.

There are no flights that connect  Ministro Pistarini Airport (where most of the international flights to Buenos Aires arrive) with the City of Mar del Plata (called MDQ or Astor Piazzolla Airport)

 

There are very few daily flights that connect  Newbery  Airport, the Domestic Airport of Buenos Aires, with the Airport of Mar del Plata (called MDQ or Astor Piazzolla Airport)

 

1) IF YOU ARE FLYING TO MAR DEL PLATA FROM BUENOS AIRES

Upon arrival of your International Flight you must transfer to the Domestic Airport (Aeroparque Jorge Newbery), one hour away, so as to take a flight to Mar del Plata. You need to arrive to the domestic one hour and thirty minutes earlier than your flight time.

Please check with your Airline whether they will provide you with a transfer between both Airports.

2) BUSES FROM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO MAR DEL PLATA

There is a bus service with 7 daily frequencies:

2:30am

5:30m

10:00am

12:30pm

2:30pm

6:00pm

9:30pm

11:30pm.

The bus ride is 5:30 hours long.

The one way ticket costs 260 argentine pesos (around 59US dollars). You can pay with credit cards, pesos cash, dollars cash, euros cash.

You can reserve your tickets by sending an email to: reservas@tiendaleonmdq.com - At the same time, please book your return bus ride, by giving them also the schedule of your departing flight from Buenos Aires. Please include the fact that you are coming to participate in the Math Olympiads.

 

 

3) TRAINS FROM THE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO MAR DEL PLATA

There is no train station at the International Airport.

 

4) TRAIN FROM THE CITY OF BUENOS AIRES TO MAR DEL PLATA

The only train we recommend is the TALGO, leaving from one of the Buenos Aires train stations called Constitución. So far, the July schedule has not been posted, and it might run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
